"Didn't want the singing bowl session to end. Have done meditation before but this was on another level. Amazing!"

The sound of the crystal singing bowls is amazing. I started meditating to singing bowls a number of years ago. The vibration is clear, powerful and deep which really helps you to focus and ‘stop’, to a certain extent, that monkey mind and truly relax.

This sound-based relaxation helps to reduce stress, anxiety, and to fall asleep. Over time, it can also help you change your brainwaves which are the patterns of electrical activity. This is why sound therapy has been used for many years to help people overcome insomnia, improve their mental health and generally improve their quality of life.

"An amazing experience of calmness, togetherness and relaxation. Shirley is so down to earth and engaging. Would highly recommend"

Is a Sound Bath Suitable for Me?

A sound bath is a gentle opportunity to pause, slow down and give yourself some time away from the demands of everyday life.

During my sound baths, you simply make yourself comfortable, usually lying or sitting, and allow yourself to relax while I play crystal singing bowls, chimes and gong from the centre of the room.

I do not place bowls on your body or move around the room placing instruments directly beside participants. I am mindful of the volume, tone and vibration throughout the session and adjust the sound accordingly. Your comfort and wellbeing are always at the heart of the experience.

A few things to be aware of

Everyone experiences sound differently. If you have a condition that makes you particularly sensitive to sound, vibration or changes in sensory stimulation, please let me know before the session. This may include conditions such as hyperacusis, significant tinnitus or sound sensitivity. We can discuss whether a sound bath is appropriate for you and whether any adjustments may help.

If you have epilepsy or a history of seizures, please speak to your GP or specialist before attending and let me know beforehand. People with epilepsy can have individual triggers, and it is important that you make an informed decision based on your own circumstances.

If you are pregnant, please let me know when booking. Pregnancy itself does not necessarily mean that you cannot enjoy relaxation practices, but individual circumstances vary, so you should seek advice from your midwife or healthcare professional if you have any concerns.

If you have a significant medical condition, are undergoing treatment, have recently had surgery, or have any other concerns about whether a sound bath is suitable for you, please check with your healthcare professional before attending.

Your comfort comes first

You are always in control of your experience.

You are welcome to change position, sit up, move further away from an instrument, take a break or leave the session at any time if you feel uncomfortable.

There is no expectation to “push through” anything. If a particular sound, vibration or volume does not feel comfortable for you, simply let me know.

My aim is to create a calm, welcoming environment where you can switch off from the stresses of everyday life and give yourself permission to pause, breathe and relax.

If you are unsure whether a sound bath is suitable for you, please contact me before booking. I am very happy to have a conversation with you.

Sound baths are a complementary wellbeing experience and are not intended to diagnose, treat or replace medical care.

Corporate Sound Bath Experiences

Enhance Wellbeing, Boost Productivity, Reduce Sick Days, and Retain Talent

Today we find ourselves living in a world of loud noises, distractions, technology, being bombarded by blue lights from screens, time pressures and high work demands all resulting in anxiety, fear, stress levels soaring and leaving a detrimental impact on our nervous system. The consequences of which impact on our sleep, mood, and the ability to perform at our full potential.

With increased stress levels leading to reduced productivity, heightened absenteeism due to illness, and a decline in staff retention rates, the Sound Bath experience for employees not only has many benefits for staff, but when a business incorporates staff wellbeing protocols, the business then reaps  the benefits of increased productivity, higher morale and a healthier work place environment.

Benefits for Your Staff

The immune system is boosted resulting in less sick days.

The deep relaxed state relaxes the nervous system and in turn this improves digestion, mood and sleep.

Improves mental alertness enabling staff to work smarter not harder.

Increased energy levels.

Some downtime space allows individuals to become more focused, more creative and ultimately work better.

Office morale is boosted creating a better working atmosphere. It even impacts on those that do not attend due to the ‘feeling better’ of those that do come along.

Supports mental wellbeing as the body responds to sound by releasing hormones and neurotransmitters endorphins, serotonin and oxytocin which make you feel good, so a natural anti-depressant.

The production of pain-relieving hormones occurs.

On the day of the Sound Bath

I will arrive around 30 minutes before the session begins.

I will need 20 minutes in the room before the session begins to set up the instruments.

The session will run for 60 minutes, 45 minutes of playing the instruments and 15 minutes to allow the participants to ‘come back into the room’.

The Sound Bath experience can be provided to a group of up to 30 people

Sound Bath Sessions for Schools

Sound baths offer children and young people a gentle opportunity to pause, relax and reset. Using the calming sounds and vibrations of crystal singing bowls, gong and chimes, sessions are designed to encourage stillness, mindful breathing and a sense of calm.

Sound bath sessions can be adapted to suit different age groups, helping pupils develop simple techniques for slowing down, focusing their attention and creating moments of calm within the school day.

Each session combines gentle breathing, relaxation and sound using crystal singing bowls, gong and chimes. Pupils remain fully clothed and can sit or lie comfortably, depending on the space available.

With over 20 years’ experience working creatively with children and communities, I provide engaging, age-appropriate sessions in a calm and supportive environment.

Younger Pupils - Discover and Relax

A gentle introduction to sound, breathing and relaxation.

Younger children are introduced to the sounds and vibrations of the instruments in an age-appropriate and engaging way. The session may include simple breathing exercises, listening activities and guided relaxation, helping children recognise how they can use their breath and quiet time to feel calmer.

Suitable for: Reception and Key Stage 1
Session length: Approximately 30–45 minutes

Older Pupils - Relax and Reset

A deeper relaxation session designed to give pupils time away from the demands of the school day.

Pupils are guided through simple breathing and relaxation techniques before settling into a sound bath. The combination of stillness, sound and gentle vibration provides an opportunity to switch off, quieten busy thoughts and experience a period of calm.

Suitable for: Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3
Session length: Approximately 45–60 minutes

Senior Pupils - Managing Pressure and Finding Calm

A calm, reflective session designed with the pressures of teenage life and school in mind.

Alongside a relaxing sound bath, pupils are introduced to simple breathing and relaxation techniques that they can use as part of their own wellbeing toolkit. The session provides an opportunity to pause, step away from everyday pressures and practise being still and present.

Suitable for: Key Stage 4 and Sixth Form
Session length: Approximately 45–60 minutes

Flexible Sessions

Sessions can be delivered to individual classes, smaller groups or as part of a wider school wellbeing programme. Content can also be adapted to suit the age, needs and environment of the pupils.

I recommend a maximum of 30 pupils per session to ensure that the experience remains calm, comfortable and beneficial for everyone.

Private Sound Baths

A private sound bath offers the opportunity to enjoy the deeply relaxing experience of sound in a space and setting that feels personal to you.

Whether you are looking for some quiet time for yourself, would like to celebrate a special occasion with friends, or simply want to share a relaxing experience with a small group, a private sound bath can be arranged to suit your needs.

During the session, you simply lie back, get comfortable and allow the sounds of crystal singing bowls, gong and chimes to surround you. I create a calm, gentle soundscape designed to encourage relaxation and give you the opportunity to step away from the demands of everyday life.

A private experience, your way

Private sound baths are suitable for individuals, couples, families, friendship groups, celebrations, wellness days and small gatherings.

Sessions can be arranged at a suitable venue of your choice, subject to location and availability. I can also provide sound baths as part of a wider wellbeing event or retreat.

There is no need to have any previous experience of meditation, mindfulness or sound healing. You don't need to do anything other than make yourself comfortable and listen.

What to expect

I use crystal singing bowls, gong and chimes, allowing the sounds and vibrations to gently fill the space. I remain seated in the centre of the room throughout the session rather than placing instruments directly onto or around participants.

The aim is simply to create a peaceful environment where you can relax, switch off from everyday distractions and enjoy some time for yourself.

Private sound baths can be tailored to the occasion, group size and setting, making them a lovely way to share a relaxing and memorable experience with the people who matter to you.

If you would like to arrange a private sound bath, email shirley@shirleywells.co.uk to discuss your requirements, preferred location and date.
